Who We Are
The Humane Society for Greater Savannah (HSGS) was founded over 55 years ago by a group of concerned animal lovers. It was recognized as a federally tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity in 1985. HSGS is managed-admission animal shelter committed to providing care to animals until they are adopted, regardless of their length of stay.
What We Do
The mission of the Humane Society for Greater Savannah is to better the lives of pets and people in Savannah and the surrounding counties. To do so, we provide several programs and services to the public including dog and cat adoptions, pet surrender services, low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations, Nuzzle Buddies, foster and volunteer programs, and End-of-Life services when needed.
Volunteers do many tasks in our facilities, including dog and cat enrichment, dog walking, dog bathing, dog handling at adoption events, assisting with feeding, assisting potential adopters in the cat room, helping with adoption counseling, front office assistance, thrift shop retail help, and more!
Volunteers must be 14 to help out on site without an adult, and 16 to be a dog walker.
