In July of 2016, the Y launched a monthly no-cost fresh food distribution event in neighborhoods with low access to fresh food options. The program began with one location before expanding to a second and third distribution site with the support of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health grant funding awarded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On the first and third Fridays of each month Y staff and volunteers shop and distribute an average 750 pounds of fresh produce and bread to neighbors in need, at no cost to them. Each family can fill two bags full of fresh foods to take home each month.
Since the program's launch, the Y has been able to put over 60,000 pounds of fresh food back into the community to those who need it!
