Looking for a way to give back and make a real impact in our community? Second Harvest is seeking volunteers each day to help with packing food boxes, sorting donations, and preparing supplies for our neighbors in need.

No experience is needed — just a willingness to help! Whether you can volunteer once a week, once a month, or just whenever you have free time, every hour makes a difference.

There’s something special taking root at Second Harvest Garden sponsored by Home Depot! We’re building more than just garden beds — we’re growing fresh food, stronger communities, and opportunities for neighbors to connect and give back together.

Every seed planted and every hand helping makes a difference. From building garden spaces to preparing for future harvests, this garden will help provide fresh produce and hope to families across our community.

Whether you volunteer, donate, or simply cheer us on, you are part of helping Fresh Roots Garden bloom into something truly meaningful.

Start Time: 0700 sign in & begin time

Location: 1380 Chatham Parkway Savannah, GA 31405- once parked please walk around to the rear of the front building and head to the left and you will see the garden. 

Shift Duration: ~5 hours or until building is complete 

Parking: Available parking lot to the right, prior to the traffic circle. 

Safety First: 

Closed-toe shoes required (no sandals or open-toed footwear) 

Dress appropriately for outside work HAT, GLOVES, SUNSCREEN if needed 

Bring a water bottle or refillable container – water is also available on-site

If you have tools, you may bring them, and please label them with your name and phone number in case of misplaced.

Who Can Volunteer? 

Volunteers must be 16+ years old 

Ages 12–15 are welcome with an adult chaperone who stays the entire shift

The Partner Market Place provides an opportunity for our agency partners to come “shop” donated product for use at their organizations.  There is a steady stream of product coming in and its ever changing.  Volunteers will assist in ensuring donated product is available to agencies throughout the day.  Tasks will include sorting, consolidating and displaying product in the marketplace. Each day's tasks will fluctuate depending on the need, but may include sorting, consolidating and displaying product in the marketplace.  Long periods of standing, bending, lifting items up to 30 pounds and working in cooler space may be part of those tasks.  

This is a great opportunity to meet a diverse group of people who have a passion for feeding others.  These people will easily become FAMILY, as they are a part of our Second Harvest family. 

**Minimum Age is 18.  Must wear closed toe shoes.**

Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors during Brown Bag for the Elderly

Help us fill bags—and hearts—with gratitude this season. We need dedicated volunteers like you to help pack food bags for our Brown Bag for the Elderly program. This important initiative ensures local seniors have enough food to last through the end of the month.

This June, we’re Brown Bag Heroes. How can you help? Bring in a canned good—such as vegetables or fruit—to help us keep our shelves stocked for seniors in need. Join us in packing food bags to help senior communities. Fun touch: Wear your hero costume!

Brown Bag Saturday: June 13, 2026

Start Time: 9:00 AM

Please arrive by: 8:30 AM for sign-in & orientation

Shift Duration: ~3 hours or until packing is complete

Parking: Available in front of the building, with overflow parking to the right.

Safety First:

Closed-toe shoes required (no sandals or open-toed footwear)

Dress appropriately for warehouse work

Bring a water bottle or refillable container – water is also available on-site

Join Us on the First Saturday!
OPEN TO INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERS

Looking for a meaningful way to give back? We’d love to have you join us on the first Saturday of each month from 1–3 PM as we pack Community Comfort Boxes for elderly neighbors in the rural counties served by Second Harvest.

Every box packed, every item sorted, and every minute you give helps ensure children, seniors, and families in our community have access to nutritious meals and essential support.

Grab a friend, bring your energy, and enjoy two hours of hands-on service that truly makes a difference! It’s a great way to connect with others, give back, and see the impact of your time firsthand.

Please note:
• Closed-toe shoes are required
• Bring a water bottle and gloves to stay comfortable while volunteering

NOTE: July packing will be on 11 July due to the 4th of July.

Second Harvest is looking for volunteers to help pack over 10,000 Disaster Relief Kits for individuals and families impacted by emergencies and disasters.

This is a large community effort, and we need YOUR help to make it happen! Every volunteer plays an important role in bringing hope, comfort, and essential supplies to those who need them most.

Whether you can come as an individual, family, church group, school, or company team, we would love to have you join us!

Through our Summer Feeding Program, we make sure kids still receive the nourishment they need with breakfast and hot meals all summer long. This May, you have the chance to be part of that impact by helping pack shelf-stable breakfast kits that will be distributed to our community partners in June.

Join us, roll up your sleeves, and help turn compassion into action—because every pack you fill helps fuel a child’s summer.

Looking for a meaningful way to give back? We’d love to have you volunteer with us! Come share your time with us on Thursday afternoons from 1-3 PM. You will be helping sort donated food or packing boxes both play a vital role in getting nutritious meals into the hands of neighbors facing hunger.

Every box you sort and every minute you give truly matters. Volunteering is a hands-on, rewarding way to make an immediate impact, connect with others, and see firsthand how your time helps strengthen our community.
