Join us in The Kitchen at America's Second Harvest to help prepare Kids Cafe meals!
What will you do?
Volunteers plate cold food into to-go boxes and send them through a machine to seal them with plastic, like a 'tv dinner.' Then staff heat the meals in the oven and our delivery drivers take them to 85 after-school sites across our region, serving up to 4,300 children a day!
We have 8-12 volunteers a day (the more the merrier) in our kitchen from 9am-12-ish Monday-Friday each week preparing 4,000+ meals.
We would love for you to come in and volunteer and see if it’s a good fit for you. If you love it as much as our other volunteers then you can come back as your schedule permits, most work 1 day a week on the same day or others pop in on days whenever they are free.

What you need to know:
Please wear close toed shoes (no sandals, Crocs, etc.). We provide hairnets or you can wear your own ball cap. You can also bring your own apron if you want or we can provide you with a plastic one (or you can go without if you choose)
Our kitchen is located on the America's Second Harvest campus at 2501 East President Street. Park in the lot on the left once you enter the gate. The kitchen is the building in the middle, on the right side when viewed from the gate, and is marked "Grace's Kids Café Kitchen."
Kids Cafe is a national program that originated in Savannah in 1989. Kids Café provides children at-risk for hunger a nutritious afternoon meal along with tutoring, homework assistance and a safe haven. Participating children are served hot, balanced meals at an after-school program where they are safe and supervised during the afternoon hours.
