1 in 3 Savannah households are asset poor meaning that they have an overall net worth of zero. Research also shows that nearly 40% of Americans do not have enough savings to cover a $400 emergency expense. The poverty simulation experience is designed to help participants begin to understand the barriers faced by a typical low-income family trying to survive from month to month.
Volunteers are needed for Step Up Savannah’s upcoming Poverty Simulation. The simulation will take place in-person for three hours on Thursday, June 10th from 9 am-12 pm. Volunteers will be used to help facilitate the event by acting as service members in simulated town. You may be assigned to be a teacher, a banker, an employer, or others and you will be asked to act out those roles. Orientation will be provided virtually on Monday June 7th from 2-3 pm.
