We need volunteers to help set up small tents/merchandise tables, unfold/arrange chairs and tables, hang banners, and lay table linens.  This person must have the ability to lifT to 40 pounds.  It is recommended to bring water, protective sunglasses/hat/sunscreen, as this position is located in full sunlight.

Savannah Speech & Hearing has offered free hearing screenings to our community since 1954.

Hearing screenings are essential to identifying hearing loss and ensuring that it be properly addressed.

Join us in offering these simple screenings in our local schools. We cannot do it without the help of volunteers!

Prior to assignment, a no cost mandatory background check will be done. Additional information may be requested. 

As part of our Back-to-School Shopping Drive, attendees are encouraged to bring a bag of gently used clothing, shoes, or household items. Through a partnership with Goodwill Southeast Georgia, donations will be converted into shopping vouchers for Tharros Place residents, allowing the girls to enjoy a back-to-school shopping experience and select items that best meet their needs.

Our individual volunteer opportunities are a great way to make a difference while serving alongside others who share a passion for helping our neighbors. Volunteers assist with a variety of hands-on projects, including sorting donated food, assembling meal boxes, and preparing emergency food supplies for individuals and families throughout Coastal Georgia.

You will be helping sort donated food, garden assistant, or packing boxes both play a vital role in getting nutritious meals into the hands of neighbors facing hunger.

Every box you sort and every minute you give truly matters. Volunteering is a hands-on, rewarding way to make an immediate impact, connect with others, and see firsthand how your time helps strengthen our community.

Start Time: 9:00 AM sharp

Please arrive by: 8:45 AM for sign-in & orientation

United Way of the Coastal Empire is seeking caring, reliable volunteers to serve as Read United Buddies, one-on-one reading tutors who help second-grade students strengthen foundational literacy skills and build confidence as readers. Just 30 minutes, twice a week, can make a lasting difference in a child's future.

Why Volunteers Are Needed

Too many children in our community are not reading at grade level by the end of third grade, placing them at greater risk for future academic challenges. Read United Buddies addresses this need by providing students with individualized reading support during the school day using evidence-based instructional practices aligned with the Science of Reading. Volunteers expand the capacity of our local schools by giving students additional time, encouragement, and practice beyond classroom instruction. Working alongside teachers and school staff, volunteers help students develop phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and, most importantly, confidence.

What Volunteers Do

No teaching experience is required. United Way partners with the school district and GSU to provide training, curriculum, materials, and ongoing support. Sites include Otis Brock Elementary School, Butler Elementary School, and Windsor Forest Elementary School.

Time Commitment

Volunteers commit to meeting with one assigned student for two 30-minute sessions each week during the school day on Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays. The commitment is for the entire school year .

Unable to commit to a full schedule? Become a Backup Buddy! Backup Buddies provide substitute support when a regular volunteer is unavailable, ensuring students continue receiving consistent reading support throughout the school year.

The Impact

Read United Buddies volunteers don't just help children become better readers, they become trusted mentors who inspire confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Together, volunteers, schools, Georgia Southern University, and United Way of the Coastal Empire are helping ensure every child has the opportunity to read proficiently by third grade.

Make a meaningful difference on your own schedule by driving cancer patients who lack reliable transportation.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver, you'll provide safe transportation so patients can keep their treatment schedules and focus on healing. Rides are typically Monday–Friday during the day.

Volunteers are encouraged to drive the patient to and from the appointment, but rides are listed as one-way segments. When you drive both legs, the time during the appointment is yours (run errands, grab coffee, read, or wait in a main lobby).

The Partner Market Place provides an opportunity for our agency partners to come “shop” donated product for use at their organizations.  There is a steady stream of product coming in and its ever changing.  Volunteers will assist in ensuring donated product is available to agencies throughout the day.  Tasks will include sorting, consolidating and displaying product in the marketplace. Each day's tasks will fluctuate depending on the need, but may include sorting, consolidating and displaying product in the marketplace.  Long periods of standing, bending, lifting items up to 30 pounds and working in cooler space may be part of those tasks.  

This is a great opportunity to meet a diverse group of people who have a passion for feeding others.  These people will easily become FAMILY, as they are a part of our Second Harvest family. 

**Minimum Age is 18.  Must wear closed toe shoes.**

Volunteers will assist SFTR team with the following: 

- Mommy Pick up support: packing bags of items needed

- Inventory

- Donation processing

- Administrative tasks

Would you like to make a big difference in the lives of senior citizens in the community? You can do this by helping seniors stay independent by joining the dedicated team of Sterling Rides volunteers at SCI. Sterling Rides volunteers transport seniors to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, hair appointments, errands, and social outings.  The commitment is flexible- you pick the rides and the seniors that you want to drive.  SCI also offers a small gas stipend to volunteers to help offset the cost of driving. This is a wonderful program that could help so many seniors who lack transportation.  Do you have spare time to dedicate to causes unrelated to work or family?  Help older adults maintain a sense of purpose. Our success is closely tied to the well-being of the communities around us.

In-office training included.  SCI also conducts a background check and a driving record check—a minimum of 3-month commitment preferred.

The Front Porch receives funding through two major sources and one of those sources has been impacted by the most recent "Big Beautiful Bill" that was passed earlier this year. We are looking for a volunteer who could help us in finding potential grants and writing proposals for additional funding to support our free services to families throughout Chatham County. 

The Front Porch regularly conducts youth assessments with families from Chatham County. Occasionally, we will have a Spanish-speaking family who needs an interpreter for their assessment. These assessments are typically 1 hour long and are scheduled at least 48 hours in advance. An interpreter would be notified ASAP, if their services were needed, and the assessment would take place at The Front Porch.  When necessary, interpretation could be done virtually. 

We are planning a *Nurturing Parenting class for mid-July or early August, depending on our ability to secure reliable childcare. As of now, this 10-part class will take place every other week on Saturday mornings or Wednesday evenings. Currently, we are conducting community surveys to gauge interest and scheduling preferences. 

A potential volunteer will be asked to tour the Front Porch, meet with our volunteer coordinator, and complete the appropriate approval documentation (background check, fingerprinting, etc.). 

*The Nurturing Parenting Program is an evidence-based initiative designed to teach parents and caregivers nurturing skills to prevent child abuse and promote healthy family development.

Senior Citizens, Inc. is seeking volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors once a week at lunchtime in Richmond Hill. 

Did you know that 1 in 6 seniors in the U.S. does not know where their next meal will come from?  There are seniors in your neighborhood who don't have enough to eat.  You can make a huge difference by becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer. 

Delivery takes about an hour or less, and training is included. Routes deliveries start at 10:30 a.m. SCI prepares hot, fresh, nutritious meals daily, and volunteers use their vehicles to deliver them. We have two routes in Bryan County that need volunteers today!

The American Red Cross Volunteer Disaster Action Team brings light to one of the darkest times that any family will endure.

Disaster Action Teams (DAT) provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

We are looking for compassionate individuals that want to help families that are affected by disasters of all sizes, from home fires to hurricanes.

DAT Responders need to be able to do initial casework virtually, including over the phone and using video conferencing. We will provide training as to how to use the software, but you need to have access to a smartphone and or computer for this role and be comfortable with technology.

The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire is currently seeking support for their Youth Programs. Volunteers would support Peer Mediators, the Positive Peer Influencer Program and encourage local youth to develop the skills to resolve conflict successfully. Free training is available.

- Peer Mediators are students trained to listen and help fellow students develop solutions to conflicts. These students help make their respective schools more peaceful places to learn and grow.
- The Positive Peer Influencer Program is an innovative program made possible through a collaboration between The Mediation Center of the Coastal Empire, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System and the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team. The program is designed to help local teens make healthy choices and to educate them to the dangers of fentanyl. Positive Peer Influencers (PPIs) are trained high school students who act as positive influences on local middle school students by modeling good decision-making, speaking about how to navigate peer pressure, discussing the potential consequences of bad decisions and offering advice about how to make healthy life choices. The Positive Peer Influencer program is designed to encourage students to have courageous conversations and to create conditions that allow students to be influenced in constructive ways. PPIs are trained to speak to other students about positive decision making, strategies to respond to peer pressure and the dangers of fentanyl. The goal is to equip young people with the tools they need to make positive decisions that set them up for a bright, healthy future.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support Peer Mediators: Assist trained student mediators in facilitating peer mediation sessions, helping fellow students develop solutions to conflicts and create a more peaceful school environment.
- Encourage Positive Peer Influencers: Collaborate with participants in the Positive Peer Influencer Program, mentoring teens as they engage with middle school students. Help facilitate discussions on healthy decision-making and effective strategies for handling peer pressure.
- Promote Conflict Resolution Skills: Organize and participate in workshops or activities designed to teach local youth essential conflict resolution and communication skills.

Volunteers are the heart of First Tee – Savannah. Our volunteers help create a fun, supportive environment where youth learn golf skills, build confidence, and develop life skills that last far beyond the course.

Volunteers support our programs in a variety of ways, including:

Assisting coaches during youth golf classes (ages 4–18)

Helping with skill stations, games, and on-course activities

Supporting youth golf tournaments and special events

Assisting with community events and fundraising activities

Helping pick up donated golf clubs from designated community locations

Encouraging positive behavior, teamwork, and sportsmanship

No golf experience is required. Just a willingness to engage with kids, be a positive role model, and help our programs run smoothly.

Girls on the Run is an afterschool enrichment program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates movement. Through thought-provoking discussion and fun activities, Girls on the Run uplifts and empowers girls in our community and prepares them to become the leaders of tomorrow. The girls in our program have learned to:

Our teams – each consisting of 15-20 girls – meet two times per week, usually right after school, for about an hour and a half and are led by a minimum of three trained coaches.  We provide thorough training for all coaches. We cover the logistics of the program, general tips about coaching, and the program’s curriculum.

As Girls on the Run® is an international program, there is a well-developed curriculum which we follow that is designed to teach valuable life lessons to girls in third through eighth grades. Lessons include subjects such as emotional health, values, cooperation, and standing up for oneself. The program finishes with a celebration event that includes a 5k run/walk.

Serving as a Coach is the most rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run and learn more about our program. You get to experience the program first hand, feel a sense of accomplishment that you have made a difference in the lives of the girls and have a ton of fun with your team of coaches and incredible girls!

This is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position works closely with the Program Coordinator and approximately 4 hours per week for 8 weeks.

When disasters strike and people are displaced from their home, you as a Shelter Services Team Member with the American Red Cross can be the shelter in the storm.

The Shelter Services Team Member is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. A Shelter Services Team Member completes tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Shelter Services Team Members support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

The Georgia Region Duty officer acts as a dispatcher for our Disaster Action Team (DAT) responses. When an individual or family is displaced by a fire, storm or other emergencies, The team provides comfort and support by assisting with access to shelter, clothing, food, and comfort.

The American Red Cross brings light to one of the darkest times that any family will endure. The Duty Officer:

1.     May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via the Disaster Action Team (DAT).

2.     Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the DAT response.

3.     Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance.

4.     Support and trains new Duty Officers.

5.     Volunteer for 8-hour shift, at least twice a month.

 The role of Feeding Service Associate is to serve as a member of a temporary work unit on a disaster relief operation.

Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. A current, unencumbered license in at least one of the following professions: Registered Nurse (RN)Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)*Paramedic*Medical Doctor (MD)Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)Physician Assistant (PA)Nurse Practitioner (NP)Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)Provide hands on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs. Provide health education, health assessments and determination if a higher level of care is needed. Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies. Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor. Support maternal and child needs as necessary. Thankfully, many heed the need and donate blood. To continue to meet this critical need, the Savannah area is looking for dependable, safe and courteous drivers to deliver lifesaving blood products.
As a Blood Transportation Specialists, you can be the critical link between blood donors and recipients. Volunteers take on regular routes and are on standby for emergency runs.

The Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) Service Associate (SA) is an operational position and is assigned temporarily, typically on level 4 and above disaster relief operations (DROs). SRT Caseworkers work with shelter residents to understand their resources and transition roadblocks to help households create an individualized action plan so that they can transition from the shelter to a more sustainable living solution. This position supports the mission of the American Red Cross by helping individuals and households more quickly transition from a shelter, thus alleviating human suffering by shortening the time of their disaster-caused displacement and jumpstarting their longer-term recovery.

Combat Boots 2 The Boardroom (CB2TB) is looking for a dependable Van Driver & Transportation Liaison to provide vital transportation support for our programs. This role ensures smooth coordination of our monthly donation pick-ups and P.R.O.S.P.E.R. Veteran Cohort workforce development sessions, helping us continue to serve veterans, youth, and families in our community.

Responsibilities

Drive one full day (8 hours) each month to pick up donations for CB2TB programs

Drive one full day (8 hours) each month to transport veterans participating in the P.R.O.S.P.E.R. Workforce Development Cohort to and from industry partner sites

The Front Porch offers after-school tutoring, Monday through Friday, for students ages 6 to 17. Sessions usually occur between the hours of 3:30pm to 5:00pm, with hours extended to 7:00pm on Thursday evenings. Most of our students need help with basic math and reading skills. Volunteers do not need to be trained as academic tutors, but they should be able to connect well with children and commit to a consistent weekly schedule. 

The Ronald McDonald Family Room located in St. Joseph/Candler Hospital is looking for volunteers to help maintain the facility. Responsibilities would include maintaining a clean facility, and checking families in who wish to visit and utilize the facility.

Hours are Sunday 1-4pm, Monday through Friday 12-3pm and 3-6pm, Saturday 10am-1pm and 1-4pm. (3 Hour Shifts)

The ReStore Assistant works with staff to process incoming donations. Below are some common tasks that may be performed by the donations assistant; however, we welcome volunteers to help in whichever areas they feel most proficient.

Position Tasks:

Assist with unloading and staging of donated items

Inspect, clean, and test incoming donations

Package, label, and price incoming donations 

Qualifications:

Friendly and helpful attitude

Ability to lift 15-50lbs

Ability to stay on feet for an extended period of time

Hours Needed:

 Anytime within store hours: Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00am – 1:00pm and/or 1:00pm - 4:00pm                       

*Volunteers must take the safety training video and the on-line volunteer orientation and must be 16 years of age. 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are a vital part of services rendered by Mary's Place. Each year they handle hundreds of phone calls made to our 24-hour crisis help-line and provide direct assistance to survivors and their loved ones. In addition, they often serve as the first point of contact, when a victim reports a crime of rape. 

Volunteering with Mary's Place is an opportunity to become an active part of the current fight to end sexual violence. In addition to a valuable and personal worthwhile experience, volunteering also allows you to gain valuable knowledge and experience working within the social services and legal continuum.

Crisis Line Advocacy

Crisis Line Advocates listen to, believe and support every survivor while educating her or him about options and resources available to them. Our call-forwarding system allows volunteers to take shifts and respond to calls from their home.

Hospital Advocacy

Hospital Advocates provide immediate in-person support to survivors of rape and sexual abuse from the emergency department and work in tandem with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and law enforcement, during the initial investigative process.

Mary's Place serves 7 counties in the coastal region and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year: including weekend and holidays.  On-call volunteer shifts are offered in 12- or 24-hour increments. All volunteers must submit to a drug screen, criminal background check and must have reliable transportation.
