Senior Citizens, Inc. is looking for volunteers to help deliver Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors once a week during lunchtime in Richmond Hill. 

Did you know that 1 out of 6 seniors in the U.S. does not know where their next meal is coming from?  There are seniors in your neighborhood who don't have enough to eat.  You can make a huge difference by becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer. 

Delivery takes about an hour or less, and training is included. Routes deliveries start at 10:30 a.m. SCI prepares hot, fresh, nutritious meals daily, and volunteers use their vehicles to deliver them. We have two routes in Bryan County that need volunteers today!

The ReStore Assistant works with staff to process incoming donations. Below are some common tasks that may be performed by the donations assistant; however, we welcome volunteers to help in whichever areas they feel most proficient.

Position Tasks:

Assist with unloading and staging of donated items

Inspect, clean, and test incoming donations

Package, label, and price incoming donations 

Qualifications:

Friendly and helpful attitude

Ability to lift 15-50lbs

Ability to stay on feet for an extended period of time

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are a vital part of services rendered by Mary's Place. Each year they handle hundreds of phone calls made to our 24-hour crisis help-line and provide direct assistance to survivors and their loved ones. In addition, they often serve as the first point of contact, when a victim reports a crime of rape. 

Volunteering with Mary's Place is an opportunity to become an active part of the current fight to end sexual violence. In addition to a valuable and personal worthwhile experience, volunteering also allows you to gain valuable knowledge and experience working within the social services and legal continuum.

Crisis Line Advocacy

Crisis Line Advocates listen to, believe and support every survivor while educating her or him about options and resources available to them. Our call-forwarding system allows volunteers to take shifts and respond to calls from their home.

Hospital Advocacy

Hospital Advocates provide immediate in-person support to survivors of rape and sexual abuse from the emergency department and work in tandem with Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and law enforcement, during the initial investigative process.

Mary's Place serves 7 counties in the coastal region and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year: including weekend and holidays.  On-call volunteer shifts are offered in 12- or 24-hour increments. All volunteers must submit to a drug screen, criminal background check and must have reliable transportation.

The Writing Fellows are a community of writers who help Savannah’s young people write and share their stories. Our agency maintains several closets stocked with essential items for children entering foster care. One of these is a spacious room filled with clothing that requires sorting and organization. Another is dedicated to hygiene products and diapers, which needs to be relocated to another floor and arranged properly. Lastly, we have a room with toys and school supplies that also needs to be moved and organized. This project would be an excellent volunteer opportunity for groups of any age.

The Meals on Wheels program of Senior Citizens, Inc. is looking for dependable volunteers to assist with meal deliveries when assigned volunteers are unable to deliver. Being a substitute driver allows flexibility for volunteers to who cannot make a weekly commitment to the Meals on Wheels program.

Meals on Wheels routes usually take an hour or less to deliver. We have routes available in Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty counties.  Volunteers must be comfortable lifting 10-15 lbs. and be able to fit boxes in their backseat/trunk.

As a Virtual Case Manager Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our case managers by assisting clients throughout our 90-county service area. Our organization needs flexible volunteers who can sit with children in foster care while DFCS case managers look for placement. This will require a full background screening and short training.

It is often last minute when we learn a child will be in the DFCS office during the day. We need a group of volunteers who will be notified by email and text that a child is in need of supervision. The volunteer will then come to the DFCS office and spend time with the child during a time that can be scary for them. Volunteers will not provide counseling or ask questions of the child; they will distract the child with fun activities until a case manager is able to take them to their new foster placement. 

This volunteer opportunity is best for individuals who are flexible during the day. 

Are you interested in helping adult learners in one or more of the following areas:  test taking skills, reading, math, spelling, writing, basic computer literacy, ESOL?

The Adult & Community Education (ACE) Program at Royce Learning Center is always seeking volunteers to work on an on-going basis with our adult learners as facilitators of learning, encouraging them to set and attain their goals.

Volunteers help adult learners of all ages and abilities prepare for anything from learning how to read, basic math/budgeting skills, and computer skills to studying for the General Education Development Diploma (GED) or Workplace promotion tests, and more. 

No teaching experience is necessary, but a desire to be a supportive and active participant in their journey is a must.
Teachers and tutors are on site during the classes and Zoom. Volunteer tutors work with each learner to develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that targets their needed skill(s). Volunteers help by providing one-to-one support alongside the teachers and other tutors.
A tutor training workshop for new volunteers is provided by Royce every semester.

A Court Appointed Special Adocate (CASA) volunteer advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children. Bringing urgency to a child’s needs, both in and out of the courtroom, CASA volunteers promote safety, permanency and well-being through independent recommendations. As community partners in the child welfare system, CASA volunteers increase abused and neglected children’s access to services (including educational and health needs), promote safety, and advocate for timeliness and permanency for children involved in juvenile court proceedings. CASA volunteers are independent advocates and provide individualized attention for children in a massive state system.

Volunteers are needed to assist with providing cultural orientation to newly arrived refugees.  No experience necessary.  Volunteers work with Inspiritus to meet with families and help them learn about U.S. culture as they transition to their new life in Savannah.  Examples include: how to ride the bus; how to grocery shop; budgeting; how to get to medical appointments; how to access the library. Cultural Orientation is conducted in class room settings, out in the community, and sometimes at individual homes.

DUETkids is a 501c dedicated to teaching at risk, underserved and low income students who may never have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument. This is a critical need in a child’s life, especially a child who may be trauma affected or have adverse childhood experiences (ACE).

Each night in our coastal community, there are children sleeping on floors, couches, chairs or sharing beds with multiple family members. The YMCA of Coastal Georgia believes that all kids deserve a space to call their own and a place to dream.

On November 16, 2019, the YMCA, in partnership with the Housing Authority of Savannah, launched A Place to Dream. The launch date began by providing 28 beds, full sheet and comforter sets along with bags filled with toys, books and stuffed animals to 13 families in our local Savannah community.

Two Rivers Health Clinic is a free clinic for adults ages 18-64 in Rincon, Georgia. The clinic is fully run by volunteer providers, nurses and other support staff. Two Rivers currently is in need of volunteer RNs, LPNS or Medical Assistants. Clinic is held 2 Wednesday evenings per month in Rincon at the clinic. Clinic hours are from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Volunteers do not have to commit to attending every clinic but can attend when they are available.

The Seal Project:  We have an ongoing need for meal bags to stock our on-site emergency food pantries at schools throughout Liberty County.  Pantries have now been placed in 11 schools, and the program continues to grow.  Please consider putting together a few bags and dropping them off at our office.

Park Place Outreach is seeking Volunteer Coordinator to assist with recruiting, training, scheduling and coordinating the use of volunteers to support agency operational services.

Park Place Outreach is seeking a Volunteer Admin to support agency front office operations. Duties include greeting visitors, answering calls,  creation and filing of documents, and other administrative duties as necessary. 

A CASA volunteer is appointed by a Chatham County Juvenile Court Judge to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence.

Because children are often unable to provide a voice for themselves during this critical and difficult time of their life, a CASA volunteer makes it possible to be their voice by advocating on their behalf.

We need volunteers to participate in our kickball scrimmage and assist with mentoring youth ages 12-18 years old. We also need food and snacks for youth after our group sessions

English to Espanol translation services are needed for one flyer. 

The Refugee School Impact Grant program of Inspiritus is currently in need of dedicated volunteers for its afterschool tutoring program.  Volunteers meet on a weekly basis with refugee children to help them improve their English skills and homework.  The commitment is a minimum of one day a week from 4:30-6pm Monday-Thursday. There is a need for in-person and virtual tutors. Resources and guidance provided by a dedicated Inspiritus staff member. Volunteers should be comfortable working with an international population, but no experience required.

Volunteer ESL tutors are needed to help refugees learn English.  The commitment is 1-2 hours a week.  Tutoring can happen at the refugee's home or at public meeting spot. 

Refugees in Savannah are currently coming from Iraq, Myanmar, Sudan, Iran, and Afghanistan.

Female volunteers are especially needed to tutor refugee mothers at home. 

Inspiritus can provide resources and guidance.  Experience is not necessary, just fluency in English and the desire to help refugees in Savannah!

Volunteers are needed to assist staff in setting up apartments for newly arrived refugees.  Volunteers can help move furniture, make beds, and organize kitchenware.    

The commitment is flexible, but the impact you can make volunteering is huge! Inspiritus is required to furnish our clients homes with the necessary furniture and household items that a family needs to get started including beds, tables, seating, kitchen items, towels, etc. 

Inspiritus' Refugee and Immigrant Services program is looking for volunteers who can assist refugees with getting to their appointments in Savannah.  These appointments include: medical/dental appointments, to/from cultural orientation and other occasions.

Dinner is a special time in homes throughout the South, and Park Place Outreach is no different.  We are looking for volunteers to provide dinner to our youth residents and staff for up to 10 people.  All food must be commercially prepared from a restaurant, grocery store, or other commercial food establishment.  Food should be dropped off at 5:30 ready to eat (not frozen or raw).

The Emmaus House Clothing Closet is located on the 3rd floor of Christ Church Episcopal. Every Wednesday at 10am we distribute gently used clothing to our clients- individuals who are unsheltered and experiencing homelessness. We receive donations of casual clothing from the community, and these clothes are sorted by community members every Tuesday morning from 9:30am until around 11:30am

Our clothing closet needs quite a bit of TLC. We have bags and bags of unsorted clothing that has accumulated, and we need your help to sort and organize it all so that our Wednesday team can distribute.

Volunteers are a vital component of One Love Animal Rescue, helping us with everything from the day-to-day tasks of caring for animals, adoption follow-ups, paperwork behind the scenes, to assisting at special events, and helping raise funds for our vital programs. Volunteer to provide small home repair service needs. The need may be a simple repair, replacement, maintenance, or a small plumbing (e.g., minor leak repair) task. The goal is same day fulfillment of the request.

If you are interested in advocating for Mental Health within your community, then hosting a clothing drive is a great way to give back (without having to jump through all those paperwork hoops!).

GRHS has a population of 85% male and 15% female patient population, and we are consistently in need of adult clothing. The hospital provides basic items, but our patients feel more comfortable in jeans, sneakers, jackets, etc of their own. These items can be brand new or gently used. We are usually in need of male clothing the most, as well as shoes or jackets. As the seasons change so does the need. For example: October we need coats, April we need shorts.

Please contact me via email if you are interested in hosting a clothing drive to gather items to meet the needs within your community. Any items we cannot, or are considered contraband for our patients, are donated to other local organizations (so no donation is wasted or thrown away!).

We do NOT accept - baby/children's clothing, underwear, socks, ties, belts, watches, miniskirts, bathing suits, flip flops.

The Humane Society for Greater Savannah needs dog walkers! Exercised pups are happier, healthier, and more adoptable. We're looking for people that can dedicate at least 10 hours per month for 6 months. First-time volunteers will attend an orientation and complete a dog walk training. Responsible for welcoming and orienting new patients and their loved ones to Hospice Savannah's inpatient facility. Provides companionship and support  to them and may also assist staff with tasks. Full training (after orientation) will be provided.

Volunteers sign up for one (or more) two-hour shift each week. Volunteers are mostly at Hospice House between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., seven days a week.

If you're interested in advocating for mental health within your community but don't have time to spend hours on site, hosting a fundraiser for our Patients is a great cause! The Patient Benefit Fund is a general account that all donations to GRHS go into that pays for things like social outings, visiting restaurants, birthday and holiday gifts, new gaming and recreation equipment, art supplies, new movies, etc.

Public Outreach (and Emergency Operations Support) Team

Individuals on this team will have the opportunity to attend community presentations and outreach events, including the annual Chatham County Hurricane Conference. In addition, we are also starting two new initiatives: "You Are the Help Until Help Arrives" and the American Red Cross Pillowcase Project. Both initiatives involve direct outreach to Chatham County residents. Volunteers on this team will also have the chance to participate in the Emergency Operations Center during a phone operations activation. With the amount of natural disasters impacting our area lately, this is a very active group that will surely allow you to make a direct impact on the residents of Chatham County. 

CCCS of Savannah is a financial empowerment non-profit organization that has served Savannah and its surrounding communities for over 50 years. Our nationally certified counselors provide expert advice to help increase the financial knowledge of clients, while helping them solve financial problems, and achieve their future goals. It is our mission to provide financial wellness in the Savannah community by improving families' credit, reducing their debt, and helping them become successful homeowners.

LIFE, Inc. is looking for a driver for their Independent Living Coordinator. The role of the driver will be to transport the Living Coordinator to consumer’s homes/ places of residence in an 11 county region and back to the office.  The LIFE Inc. office is located at: 5105 Paulson St. Savannah, GA. This may require the individual to obtain a chauffeur license/ permit from the GA DMV. The driver will need car insurance. The driver will be reimbursed for gas. Pricing will depend on how much fuel it takes to make the trip. Meals will not be provided.

Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE), Inc. is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) that serves the following counties in Southeast Georgia: Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Liberty, McIntosh, Tattnall and Toombs.  CILs are service and advocacy organizations run by and for people with disabilities. We focus on civil rights, the independent living philosophy, and inclusion. All Centers provide individual and systems advocacy, information and referral, peer support, independent living skills training, and transition services. The primary goal of LIFE is to give the right tools to individuals with disabilities so they can become as independent and as fully involved in their community as they want to be.

Each weekday morning Emmaus House serves a hot hearty meal to the unsheltered and otherwise hungry residents of Savannah. We are blessed to have volunteers who come and serve each meal each day. Unfortunately, after the breakfast meal is served and volunteers go home, we are left in need of help to clean.

We need 2nd shift volunteers to help clear tables, wipe them down, sweep the floor and mop. This is a need that we have Monday - Thursday 50 weeks out of the year.

Provides companionship and support to the homecare patients and their family members in the patient's home. Will provide a two to three hour break for the caregiver. Will receive training and support before being with patients.

Homecare volunteers can also visit our patients in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The Dolphin Project, Inc. is where scientists and volunteers came together to count the dolphins and photograph their dorsal fins (comparable to a human fingerprint for identification). These actions help monitor the health of the dolphins which are the sentinel species of their estuarine environment. Since we share this environment, the well-being of these dolphins impacts our well-being too.
