Volunteer: Volunteers needed to help disabled students thrive during adaptive horseback riding!Faith Equestrian needs YOUR help to make our therapeutic/ adaptive riding lessons a success! Volunteers are an integral part our program. The riding lessons are mildly physical with walking up to 30 minutes at a time (with some breaks of course) and some jogging possible for short distances. Must be able to physically lift 25 lbs and must be at least 14 years old. Each lesson requires 1 horse leader and 1-2 sidewalkers, depending on each students need. Our April Volunteer Training Schedule is listed below: *Saturday, April 12th at 10:30am:https://www.facebook.com/share/15w6EgLRqd/*Tuesday, April 22nd at 6pm:https://www.facebook.com/share/18WFZFryw1/ **BARN CHORES volunteers are ALWAYS needed! Sidewalker - A person who walks beside the horse next to the student's knee area while the student is mounted. They offer moral support as well as look out for the students balance. Ensuring the rider is not shifting too far over one side or the other on the horses back. Their focus is on the student, not the horse. No horse experience needed. Horse leader - A person who controls the horse's movement on a lead line while the student is mounted. The horse leader is responsible for watching to see that the horse is comfortable and responding in a relaxed manner to the student. Their focus is on the horse. Horse experience required. Barn Chores - Does NOT require a Volunteer Training and we highly suggest this option to familiarize yourself with the herd which in turn helps to be a more confident sidewalkers & horse leader! This consists of cleaning stalls, picking pastures, turning out or bringing in horses, feeding, etc. Other needs: Barn maintenance, gardening/landscape maintenance, building maintenance **We do require a background check for anyone 18 or older who assists the students with lessons.
