This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services (DCS) department. The Fulfillment (FUL) activity on a disaster relief operation (DRO) supports congregate shelter sites by resourcing and delivering materials during daily site visits throughout the disaster operation.

Disaster Health Services (DHS) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person before, during and/or after a disaster event this hurricane/wildfire season. Volunteers in this role provide assistance and healthcare to shelter residents as needed. A current, unencumbered license in at least one of the following professions: Registered Nurse (RN)Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)*Paramedic*Medical Doctor (MD)Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)Physician Assistant (PA)Nurse Practitioner (NP)Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)Provide hands on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs. Provide health education, health assessments and determination if a higher level of care is needed. Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies. Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor. Support maternal and child needs as necessary. Complete required virtual self-paced and instructor-led training required for the position (9 hours total).Willing and able to volunteer in person in a disaster shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event Available to sign up for shifts on consecutive days (shifts may be 8 or 12 hours long) Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.

The purpose of Community Engagement and Partnerships (CEP) is to work with external organizations to build capacity, coordinate activities, integrate expertise, and provide channels to reach all disaster affected communities, particularly traditionally underserved populations. The role of this worker is to assist with the implementation of the CEP plan.

When disasters strike and people are displaced from their home, you as a Shelter Services Team Member with the American Red Cross can be the shelter in the storm.

The Shelter Services Team Member is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. A Shelter Services Team Member completes tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Shelter Services Team Members support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

The Georgia Region Duty officer acts as a dispatcher for our Disaster Action Team (DAT) responses. When an individual or family is displaced by a fire, storm or other emergencies, The team provides comfort and support by assisting with access to shelter, clothing, food, and comfort.

The American Red Cross brings light to one of the darkest times that any family will endure. The Duty Officer:

1.     May determine if Red Cross action is required; may decide if Red Cross will respond via the Disaster Action Team (DAT).

2.     Uses event triggers such as size, scope, and type of the event to direct the DAT response.

3.     Works with on-scene DAT leadership to support the response and provide technical guidance.

4.     Support and trains new Duty Officers.

5.     Volunteer for 8-hour shift, at least twice a month.

Did you know someone needs blood every two seconds? Every day, roughly 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the US. Simply put, that’s a lot of blood that is severely needed. Thankfully, many heed the need and donate blood. To continue to meet this critical need, the Savannah area is looking for dependable, safe and courteous drivers to deliver lifesaving blood products.
As a Blood Transportation Specialists, you can be the critical link between blood donors and recipients. Volunteers take on regular routes and are on standby for emergency runs.

The Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) Service Associate (SA) is an operational position and is assigned temporarily, typically on level 4 and above disaster relief operations (DROs). SRT Caseworkers work with shelter residents to understand their resources and transition roadblocks to help households create an individualized action plan so that they can transition from the shelter to a more sustainable living solution. This position supports the mission of the American Red Cross by helping individuals and households more quickly transition from a shelter, thus alleviating human suffering by shortening the time of their disaster-caused displacement and jumpstarting their longer-term recovery.

The American Red Cross Volunteer Disaster Action Team brings light to one of the darkest times that any family will endure.

Disaster Action Teams (DAT) provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.

We are looking for compassionate individuals that want to help families that are affected by disasters of all sizes, from home fires to hurricanes.

DAT Responders need to be able to do initial casework virtually, including over the phone and using video conferencing. We will provide training as to how to use the software, but you need to have access to a smartphone and or computer for this role and be comfortable with technology.
