What We Do

The office collaborates with other nonprofits, serving more than 10,000 Bryan residents annually.
DIRECT SERVICES
Mobile Food Pantries: Throughout the year, the Bryan County office hosts mobile food pantries in conjunction with America’s Second Harvest to provide supplemental food to local families who struggle to make tough choices between buying food and paying for other necessities.
Backpacks of Love: Every week, the Bryan County office distributes bags packed with nutritious non-perishable food items to children to take home on weekends and holidays so they don’t go hungry. New Beginnings Community Church and Bryan County Senior Center volunteers help pack and distribute these Backpacks of Love.
COLLABORATIONS
- Local Food Pantry Partnerships: United Way provides donated food from local canned food drives and products purchased with United Way funds from America’s Second Harvest Food Bank to assist local food pantries in ensuring nutritious food for any Bryan County family in need.
- VITA: VITA provides tax preparation for Bryan County residents making less than $40,000 annually. Each January, the United Way works with the Neighborhood Improvement Association (NIA) in Savannah to set up preparation sites in Bryan County. These sites are staffed with trained volunteers to assist in preparing and filing income tax claims. This helps to return the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) dollars to the community.
- Consumer Credit Counseling: Free community workshops in Bryan County and vouchers for free "one-on-one counseling" sessions with Consumer Credit Counseling assist individuals and families to take control of their financial future. Co-hosting, coordinating and promoting these events and services are the best means in which the United Way supports these efforts.
- Family Promise of Bryan County: It's mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community based response. This community response includes the integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers.
