Who We Are

The Georgia Conservancy is a member-supported, environmental conservation organization. We recognize the connection between the environment, the economy and equity. Since its founding in 1967, Georgia Conservancy and its members have ensured the protection and conservation of some of our state’s most precious natural places.

What We Do

Georgia’s coast stretches for 110 miles and features some of the nation’s most pristine beaches, remote salt marshes and protected maritime forests, which sanctuary for migrating birds, a home to a number of endangered or threatened species, and recreational opportunities to coastal residents and visitors. Protecting our coast has been a priority of the Georgia Conservancy for more than 55 years. We maintain an office in historic downtown Savannah where we work
on a range of projects to protect this precious natural resource.

The following principles are the foundation of the Georgia Conservancy’s advocacy to protect Georgia’s coastal resources:

1. Responsible planning for growth and conservation of sensitive coastal lands is essential to preserving the integrity of natural coastal systems and, in turn, the health and welfare of coastal Georgians.

2. The integrity of the salt marsh ecosystem and the public’s safe access and enjoyment of our common coastal treasures must be preserved.

3. Barrier island wilderness, refuges and other coastal public lands are an incomparable resource that provide clean air and water, safeguard biological diversity, offer people a safe haven for solitude, enjoyment and spiritual renewal, and preserve an unspoiled natural heritage for future generations.

4. A sustainable coastal ecosystem is vital to Georgia’s prosperity.
