Midway through August? The Sunday of Summer is upon us but the sun has not yet set on volunteering in the Coastal Empire! There are still plenty of ways to be involved in the community and help out a neighbor. With that in mind, why not head over to the needs page after checking out this blog?
But speaking of helping out our neighbors, why don't I recap some of the recent volunteer events UWCE has hosted this summer. If you recall, we celebrated our United Way Day of Action in the Effingham Community Garden at Zion Lutheran Church. We didn't want that to be a one-time, one-day affair, so our Young Leaders went back into the garden to plant corn that should be ready when Autumn rolls around.
Earlier in July, a team of volunteers beautified downtown Pembroke's W Bacon St. with gorgeous planters positively overflowing with blooming flowers. These planters are no joke, so if you're in the area, check them out! This project represented the culmination of years of work in Pembroke and we are so proud to have been a part of it.
The next weekend saw us in action in Hinesville as we revitalized Diversity Health's Community Garden (sensing a theme?). We pulled out anything we couldn't eat and replaced it with new plants to feed the area and provides scenic space for Diversity Health to use. If any or all of these events sound interesting to you, fan our page on unitedwayvolunteers.org.
One last thing, we here in the Volunteers Department of United Way of the Coastal Empire want to make sure we do all we can to support volunteerism in our four-county service area. That said, we hope to launch a newsletter soon covering all things volunteering in the Coastal Empire. This blog will find a new home in the newsletter alongside plenty of new items! We want this newsletter to be something you look forward to seeing in your inbox, whether you read it for a smile, or to find your next volunteering opportunity.
Volunteer United.
