The Stamp Out Hunger! Food Drive occurs a crucial time when holiday food drive donations have been depleted from the food bank shelves, just as local pantries and agencies prepare for their summer needs.
Letter Carriers are an integral part of every neighborhood in the nation, and they witness the growing for food assistance in our communities. There are 34 million Americans who struggle with food insecurity, uncertain of where or when they will get their next meal or how they will feed their children. As long as there are hungry Americans this food drive will be in replenishing the shelves of local food banks.
The timing of this food drive is critical as Second Harvest prepares for Summer Feeding Programs. We will provide summer meals each weekday at approximately 85 different locations, starting June 1st. Summer is a challenging time for children who typically receive free breakfast and lunch at school and a stressful time for parents trying to compensate the lack of these meals.
Second Harvest would like for our volunteers to assist in sorting items from our US Postal Food Drive drop-off on Saturday evening from 5:30 PM to 8 PM at our CC's Gathering Warehouse located behind our main building.
