Description

  1. You can "Make a Difference" as a tax volunteer. Volunteers will become part of an established program that has helped community members file tax returns at no charge.

  2. No previous experience is required. Volunteers receive specialized training and — if tax preparation is not preferable — have the option of serving in a variety of other roles.

  3. Free tax law training and materials are offered to prepare basic individual income tax returns.

  4. Hours are flexible. Volunteer as your schedule allows. One hour of your time can increase the income of a deserving family.

  5. VITA sites offer free electronic filing for both federal and state tax returns. By up to 11,000.

NIA is seeking volunteers who are willing to offer assistance to low and moderate-income families by preparing federal and state tax returns in Chatham, Bryan, Effingham and Liberty Counties.  Each tax preparer will become IRS certified and offer free tax assistance to hard-working families who can save hundreds of dollars by using this free tax service instead of paying a preparer.

Again, No Experience is Necessary.

Free morning and evening training sessions will be available, after which volunteers will be IRS Certified.  Volunteers needed for flexible shifts and multiple locations on an on-going basis from January to April.  In addition to tax preparers, each site needs intake and other supporting individuals to help the taxpayers.
