Exciting news, Savannah! The Savannah Children’s Museum is now the official partner of Project Open Hand Atlanta, bringing Cooking Matters to coastal Georgia through the Health and Wellness Initiative of the Children’s Museum.
Cooking Matters is a national program that forms part of the Share Our Strength: No Kid Hungry campaign which connects kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. These six week long classes are offered in low-income communities for FREE, meeting once a week for two hours to talk nutrition and do hands-on cooking. We even make a special visit to a grocery store during week five for a tour! The curriculum is designed to be applicable to a family receiving SNAP benefits, teaching them to maximize their dollar while eat healthfully.
You can volunteer to be part of this wonderful program and see for yourself how impactful it is. There will be another training September 15th, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more information, please contact Jesse Rosenblum at jrosenblum@chsgeorgia.org or 912-651-2338 ext. 218.
